Hey there, Dirk Zee here.
This is huge:
AI is resulting in real growth for Big Tech:
According to recent news, Microsoft and Alphabet (the parent company of Google) have reported their quarterly earnings, highlighting their investments in artificial intelligence (AI). Here are some key points:
Microsoft's revenue and net profit beat expectations, with revenue of $56.52 billion and net profit of $2.99 per share. The company's investments in AI, particularly in its Azure cloud business, have contributed to its growth. Microsoft has invested $13 billion in OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, and has integrated this technology into its Bing search engine. Azure's revenue share from generative AI grew to 3%.
Alphabet reported quarterly sales of $76.69 billion, up 11% from the same period last year. However, the company's cloud revenue of $8.41 billion fell short of expectations. Alphabet's cloud growth was not as strong as anticipated, which raised concerns about its competitiveness in the cloud computing market, particularly against Microsoft and Amazon.
These results indicate that AI investments are starting to show positive results for both companies. Microsoft's Azure and generative AI technologies have contributed to its revenue growth, while Alphabet's Google search and YouTube businesses have performed well. However, Alphabet's cloud results fell short of expectations.
